[STATEMENT] Politicians Must Stop Politically Exploiting Shincheonji Church of Jesus
Politicians must immediately cease their acts of politically exploiting Shincheonji Church of Jesus.
In South Korea, every election season, the political establishment has used Shincheonji Church of Jesus as a tool for vote calculations. To gain votes from established denominations, they have made Shincheonji Church of Jesus a scapegoat and have attacked it according to political needs with each change of administration. Such behavior constitutes unconstitutional violence that directly violates religious freedom.
Particularly during the COVID-19 crisis, the government and Daegu City made Shincheonji Church of Jesus a scapegoat for their quarantine failures. They shifted all responsibility onto Shincheonji Church of Jesus and incited nationwide hatred. However, the judiciary rendered a "not guilty" verdict regarding violations of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act, clearly revealing that the criticism against Shincheonji Church of Jesus was baseless political scapegoating.
The claim that Yoon Suk-yeol, then Prosecutor General, prevented search and seizure against Shincheonji Church of Jesus is also completely false. Former Prosecutor General Yoon directed multiple search and seizure operations against Shincheonji Church of Jesus and personally led coercive investigations that resulted in the detention of Shincheonji Church of Jesus Chairman and key leaders. The assertion that Shincheonji Church of Jesus politically assisted such a person is nothing more than an unreasonable fabrication that defies common sense.
Nevertheless, Hong Joon-pyo, former Mayor of Daegu, has recently been publicly spreading claims that are completely contrary to the facts, attempting once again to politically exploit Shincheonji Church of Jesus. Former Mayor Hong merely exchanged greetings during a visit to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus Chairman, yet he has fabricated claims and disparaged the church by alleging that the Chairman made statements about party membership and other matters that never occurred. This constitutes clear dissemination of false information, and former Mayor Hong Joon-pyo must bear legal responsibility for this.
Members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus are also citizens of the Republic of Korea. The Constitution of the Republic of Korea clearly guarantees individual political freedom and religious freedom for all citizens. Members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, as citizens of the Republic of Korea, can also participate as members of various political parties. Using this as a pretext for political attacks and inciting hatred against a specific religious organization undermines the foundation of democracy.
Politicians must never again engage in words or actions that violate religious freedom.
Shincheonji Church of Jesus, as a religious organization, is unrelated to politics. We declare that we will respond firmly to political distortions and incitement of hatred that maliciously target specific religion.
Just as Jesus was persecuted during his first coming when he preached the truth by those who fabricated false accusations against him, today Shincheonji Church of Jesus is also slandered with all kinds of lies and persecuted for preaching God's word of truth. However, we have done nothing wrong. We are preaching the highest truth on earth, just like Jesus, and we have mastered the Book of Revelation. And just as we learned from Jesus, we practice love and forgiveness and pray for them.

Certain political and religious (namely Protestant) groups in Korea, together with certain "Christian" media outlets, continue to incite hatred against Shincheonji in order to boost their own political grounding. #Shincheonjichurch
