[Shincheonji Church of Jesus's Position Regarding JTBC's August 7th Report]
The content related to "Chairman Lee Man-hee's Imperial Education" reported by JTBC on August 7th, 2025 is completely contrary to the facts and represents malicious framing intended to drag Shincheonji Church of Jesus into political controversy. Our church clearly states the following facts:
1. The claim of Presidential Office intervention is contrary to the facts.
While JTBC reported that Chairman Lee received preferential education treatment due to Presidential Office intervention, the actual situation was the opposite. At that time, Chairman Lee applied for a postponement of compliance education due to health reasons, which was approved based on a legitimate medical certificate. However, afterward, the Namyangju Compliance Support Center informed us that complaints regarding the postponement of compliance education were continuously being filed with the Presidential Office, and consequently, contact came from the Ministry of Justice stating that no further postponements could be allowed.
This was not a situation involving any preferential treatment or external solicitation, but rather one where strict standards were applied due to external complaints.
2. The education postponement was carried out according to legal procedures.
The education postponement was decided by the center based on a medical certificate and was a legally justified procedure.
3. The bed installation was for emergency use only and was never actually used.
A temporary emergency cot was placed with permission from the Compliance Support Center in preparation for emergency situations involving an elderly person, and it was removed within one or two days without ever being actually used. This is a fact that the Ministry of Justice has already disclosed through official explanatory materials.
4. The one-on-one education was a legitimate measure according to the Ministry of Justice's exception regulations.
Chairman Lee was in a situation where participation in group education was difficult due to advanced age, health problems, and hearing impairment. Accordingly, the one-on-one education method was applied following the internal procedures of the Compliance Support Center. As the Ministry of Justice has publicly stated, this is an exceptional measure generally applied to subjects for whom group education is difficult, such as those with illness, disabilities, or foreigners.
5. Shincheonji Church of Jesus is unrelated to politics.
It is unjust to frame Shincheonji Church of Jesus by linking it to a specific political party and alleging violations of the Public Official Election Act and Political Parties Act. All citizens of the Republic of Korea are guaranteed the right to political participation under the Constitution. They can express their political will by joining political parties according to their own political convictions. We ask that JTBC cease its reports that persecute Shincheonji Church of Jesus by imposing politically biased frames upon it.
Shincheonji Church of Jesus will proceed with strong measures, including legal action, regarding such false and distorted reporting.
