The youth volunteer group We Are One of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus has achieved remarkable results with its nationwide intensive blood donation campaign, recording more than 7,500 completed donations within just one month of its launch. The large-scale participation in such a short period has been widely praised for its significant contribution to alleviating ongoing blood shortages in medical settings.
The campaign began on July 27 and, as of August 31, drew participation from approximately 8,000 volunteers, of whom about 7,500 successfully donated blood—earning it recognition as the largest youth blood donation initiative in the country.
Blood is the only means of saving the lives of patients in need of transfusions—there is no substitute for blood, and it cannot be artificially produced. Because it also cannot be stored for long periods, a stable blood supply depends on the steady participation of donors. For this reason, countries around the world prohibit the commercial trade of blood and instead encourage voluntary donation.
Since the campaign began, We Are One youth members nationwide have taken part in designated donations to save the lives of family and friends, repeated donations numbering in the hundreds, and a wave of voluntary giving.
Han Yu-young (185 donations) said, “Blood donation is a precious act of service that only healthy people can do. When I was able to directly help a friend’s family during surgery by giving my blood donation certificate, I felt deeply rewarded.”
Another member, Nam Hyo-seung (157 donations), shared, “I first started donating blood during my military service. Though it’s a small act of sharing, knowing that it can directly save someone’s life has kept me going ever since. I’ll continue as long as my health allows.”
Jung Seung-min, who took part in an emergency designated blood donation, said, “I was deeply moved by the fact that my blood was used to save someone’s life,” expressing his intention to continue donating blood in the future.
In particular, the youth group of the Incheon Gyeyang Church practiced warm sharing by collecting and delivering 70 blood donation certificates for a brother preparing to undergo surgery. The young man who received the certificates said, “I’m truly grateful. Encouraged by the support of the youth members, I’ve gained the courage to go through the surgery.
A representative of We Are One stated, “Blood donation is an irreplaceable act of sharing life,” adding, “As the campaign continues until October 18, we hope that even more young people will take part in saving the lives of those in need.”
